Yesterday, with every good intention at heart, I walked outside to give some yummy nibbles to the backyard critters. I arrived quietly so not to startle them, but as soon as they knew I was there they scattered. Hiding in the safe familiarity of the bushes.
It reminded me of how an ego acts when the illusory wall between ‘us’ and the infinite thins a little and Its Presence can be perceived. Ego freaks out, frantically backs away and instantly shuts down the experience of the greater reality.
Although someday I would like to get more friendly with the critters, I kind of don’t think my ego will ever accept the Infinite. It may admit that its there and feign understanding. But really, true immersion just doesn’t seem to be in its job description.
